Restaurant Review: Costa Azul

Hello Loyal Island Readers! It's time to talk about one of Coronado's favorites, the Costa Azul. The restaurant is conveniently located in the heart of the village. It offers Mexican cuisine with a focus on seafood.

I have two favorite dishes here, the Swordfish Tacos and the Coronado Burrito. I mostly go for the burrito when I am super hungry as the tacos are not as filling. And for how tasty the tacos are, I wish three would come in an order instead of only two. The burrito is never greasy and always tastes fresh. You will have a choice of beef, chicken, and pork.

Now, even though I do recommend this restaurant overall, I must tell you that my food was delivered cold the last time I went here. My Swordfish Tacos looked and tasted good but were less than hot. And my wife's Camarones Diablos were room temperature. It was almost as if they had made dishes in advance, anticipating orders to come. Our specific plates probably sat around under the heat lamps for awhile. So far, this isn't a big deal since it happened only one time.

Keep in mind that there is a full service bar at the Costa Azul. So, consider stopping by for a quick one or relax at an outdoor table for a few. Remember, this is a place for the locals to hang out. Their daily happy hour runs between 3:30 and 6:30pm.

The Costa Azul is within walking distance to the Hotel Del and all of the village's cute shops. I usually grab a small gelato at Nado Gelato's around the corner for desert and take a leisurely stroll around the area.

Their website mentions that you can join their "Friends and Family" plan for special promotions and locals discounts. http://www.costaazulcoronado.com/

I give Costa Azul a B+.

Why? Because it is a good place to go when you don't feel like making food yourself. And it is better than their rival Mexican restaurant, Miguel's, down the block. But, the Costa Azul doesn't go above and beyond for your business. It just delivers.

When in doubt check this restaurant out!
